The Sanskrit word Sangha (संघ) is made up of two roots: sam (सं) and gha (घ). Sam means “bringing” or “joining together”, while gha means “holding” and “maintaining”. Thus, Sangha is “that which holds together and maintains”.
Bringing together artists with roots in the Indian subcontinent,“Sangha…In Collective Existence,” reflects upon the evolutionary nature of the physical and spiritual fabric that molds and shapes us, as carriers of a culture and identity: in a constant flux, transforming individually and collectively into a global society, through economics, politics, migration, etc. ; as we continue to carry this consciousness in our cellular being. Through the Land- Just as fungi and tree roots form networks develop an intelligent interdependent cosmos of nurturing and adapting below the Earth; these structures form an invisible fabric that holds together the soil, a seed, a tree, its growth, decay and regeneration. Flowing with Nature- from Earth to the Sky: Symbolizing our individual and communal journeys. A dynamic movement, etched into our collective resilience. This exhibition explores these ‘Formations’ that connect the physical with the spiritual, the individual with the collective, and Nature, as our anchor, with its visible and invisible processes. Through Clay- Clay, as a language holds an elemental expression. Devishi and Rashi bring together artists interested in and working with this thought and experience, through their stories, expressions, collaborations and formations in clay, with interactive and immersive artworks. Sangha….In Collective Existence observes the threads of our evolution within this interconnected world.
